OVERVIEW
Main Street Greenwood, Inc. is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization dedicated to revitalizing and promoting Greenwood’s historic downtown district. A designated Main Street program since 1995, the organization works to strengthen downtown through the four points of the Main Street Approach: organization, design, promotion, and economic vitality. Main Street Greenwood leads efforts to preserve historic character, support small business growth, and create a welcoming destination for residents and visitors. Through events, partnerships, and strategic initiatives, the organization fosters a vibrant downtown that serves as the heart of Greenwood’s commerce, culture, and community life. Main Street Greenwood is accredited by the Mississippi Main Street Association and Main Street America.
JOB DESCRIPTION
The Executive Director of Main Street Greenwood, Inc. serves as the chief advocate and coordinator for the revitalization and promotion of Greenwood’s historic downtown district. Grounded in the principles of historic preservation as a tool for economic development, the Executive Director leads the implementation of the Main Street Approach, focusing on organization, design, promotion, and economic vitality. Working closely with the Board of Directors, local government, businesses, property owners, and community partners, the Executive Director oversees strategic planning, project development, budgeting, fundraising, marketing, and volunteer engagement. The position requires both visionary leadership and hands-on management to preserve Greenwood’s historic character, attract investment, support small businesses, and enhance the quality of life in the downtown district. The Executive Director also represents Main Street Greenwood at the local, state, and national levels as a spokesperson and champion for downtown’s continued growth. The Executive Director reports to the Main Street Greenwood Board of Directors.
QUALIFICATIONS
The Executive Director position requires at minimum an associate degree and at least three years of experience in a related field. A bachelor’s degree and five or more years

of relevant experience are preferred. The ideal candidate will demonstrate honesty, professionalism, initiative, flexibility, creativity, and strong interpersonal skills, along with a deep sensitivity to the needs and priorities of the community. Candidates should possess excellent written and verbal communication skills, strong organizational and time management abilities, and experience supervising staff or volunteers. The ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously and work collaboratively with diverse stakeholders is essential. Advanced proficiency with Microsoft Office applications (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook) and cloud-based file management systems (e.g., Dropbox) is required. Experience with financial management software (e.g., QuickBooks), design and publishing tools (Adobe InDesign, Canva, or similar), and digital marketing platforms (Facebook, Instagram, Constant Contact) is preferred. Some travel will be required.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
• Oversee the day-to-day operations of Main Street Greenwood, including budgeting, financial management, purchasing, record keeping, and preparation of required reports for the board, the Mississippi Main Street Association, and Main Street America.
• Maintain the organization’s accreditation and good standing by attending trainings and conferences, submitting required reports, and ensuring compliance with program guidelines.
• Work with the Board of Directors and committees to develop and implement an annual work plan and long-term strategies focused on the four points of the Main Street Approach: organization, design, promotion, and economic vitality.
• Coordinate and support the work of Main Street committees and volunteers, ensuring effective communication, collaboration, and successful implementation of projects and initiatives.
• Plan, coordinate, and execute promotional events and activities that enhance downtown Greenwood’s visibility and vitality, including signature events such as Que on the Yazoo and Rosé the Night Away.
• Develop and implement marketing and public relations strategies, including social media, website management, media outreach, and public speaking engagements, to promote downtown Greenwood and the work of Main Street Greenwood.

• Foster collaboration and build strong partnerships with local government (City of Greenwood and Leflore County), businesses, property owners, nonprofit organizations (Chamber of Commerce, Economic Development Foundation, CVB), and state and national Main Street networks to advance shared goals for downtown revitalization.
• Provide support and guidance to downtown property owners and business owners on topics such as historic preservation, design improvements, business recruitment, financial resources, and available incentives.
• Collect and maintain data systems to track the program’s progress, including building inventories, photographic documentation, economic indicators, and statistics on business development and job creation.
• Represent Main Street Greenwood at the local, state, and national levels, serving as a spokesperson for the organization and advocate for policies and initiatives that strengthen downtown revitalization efforts.
• Other duties as assigned by the Main Street Greenwood Board of Directors.
SALARY AND BENEFITS
This is a full-time, exempt position. Main Street Greenwood offers a competitive salary commensurate with education and experience, along with a comprehensive benefits package that includes health insurance and retirement. Additional benefits include ten (10) paid holidays each year, as well as paid personal leave.
